WOW it has been hot and windy today! Got a nice burn/tan going on! Had some white outs today too....and talked to a couple of folks who I camp with about making an art car for next year! Hopefully we will be able to join forces.

I posted a couple of pages on my facebook page. Sorry I didn't do it here to hard to upload onto somebody's computer.

Ok another day! Very windy today! I think we are suppose to have 50mph winds for the next couple of days.... so it it going to be a windy/sandy day today!

WOW is it HOT HERE TODAY!
Went up yesterday morning with Hoot and flew around the city, what a great time! I even got to fly the plane so now I need to log the hours in my flight log book!! YEAH!! Today I am hoping to get a flight up in a heli!! Last night we also played tether for the hot air balloon that is out here this year! Very nice!

Oh and the playa wedding of Hawk and Dove was wonderful there are tons of pictures and those will get posted later as well. Dad (aka. Big ED) dressed up as the grim reaper and gave away the groom!

WOW is it COLD at night here!!

Good morning everyone! The last two nights have been so so so so so cold!!! At midnight last night the event started and there were tons of folks on there way in. Was up at 2am watching all the headlights driving in! There are tons of wonderful art that I saw last night too! Bliss is a lady that has to be at least 50 to 100 feet tall and damn does she have a body on her! And the great thing the entire thing was built on Treasure Island! Oh and I was following this guy on the way up for a bit. Well last night the whole thing was put together it is a LARGE globe which is heavy and sharp!
I will try and post some pictures later today if I can. The weather is not suppose to get over 90 while we are here so we will see!!

Mom, make sure to bring warm and cold stuff to wear!!

Hello All! I have arrived. The weather is god awful! Windy but not that, however, the cold....the cold.... the cold is here.
It is suppose to be approx 45 degrees tonight! And the word is it is suppose to snow in Reno!

Spagetti & Cornbread

Ok so back to posting about dinner!
Tonight we made Spagetti and Cornbread and I know it sounds simple, but the reason I am writing this is because everytime I make cornbread it SUCKS! And tonight it was great! Found a recipe on FoodGeeks for "Quick and Easy Cornbread" http://www.foodgeeks.com/recipes/18119 and well it was really good. I was totally surpirsed as I have never used this website before.

Spagetti was dad's (I can't remember ever making spagetti sauce) and it was:
Can of Tomato Sauce
Can of Chunky Tomato
1# Ground Beef already fried
Oregano
Basil
Garlic Powder
Salt
Pepper

Not bad, not bad at all! THANKS DAD! I will have to try it!

Maker Faire 2010

Yeaterday dad and I went to the Maker Faire. This is my 2nd year, however, he has been going since the first one, which I believe to be in 2005 (will need to check on that). WAY more people than last year, but there also was way more publicity about it as well. Lots of great booths and lots of great ideas too! The Coke Zero/Mentos event was great! (Picture is of the 1pm show almost at the end). There were tons of other wonderful and fabulous things to see as well. Like the Steampunk group, the REAL steam engine (both miniture and full scale). Adam from Mythbusters was one of the celeb speakers. I went home with lots of great websites to check out! Lion Brand Yarn had a much larger booth this year and wow LOTS of folks learning to both knit and crochet. TNNA and other groups were there as well. Oh yes and I can't forget the great displays of LEGO's!

See ya next year, but next year we are taking the train considering it tooks 45 mins to get from the freeway exit to a parking spot! Maybe they will learn that the people taking the money need to work out a better system as they were the total hold up!

Cod Fish and Quinoa??

Tonight we made cod with paprika, garlic salt and fried in olive oil. And for the first time tonight we made Quinoa, and wow was it good! Made it in the rice cooker just like rice. I also fried up some fresh spinach. It was a great dinner night.

Next time we will have to try Quinoa with saffron in it!! I think our new find can have anything added to it and it will taste great. What will be in store for tomorrow night........

Canning and cookies oh my!!

Today at the Dedini House we canned Apricot/Apple Chutney and Zucchini Relish. Then in came some Persimmon Cookies, two batches and two different recipes. Father/Daughter showdown!!

Apricot/Apple Chutney:
~approx 8 cups of apricots, cleaned
~6 Fuji apples
~1 cup raisins
~1 large yellow onion
~3 cups light brown sugar
~1/4 cup mustard seed
~approx 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
~2 tsp salt
~1 clove garlic, minced
~1 Thai chili pepper
~5 cups apple cider vinegar
Combine all cook for 40 mins, or until starts to thicken. This made 9 large and 2 small jars.

Note: Next time I would cook longer to thicken up a tad more.

Persimmon Cookies:
This one we tried two different recipes. Here is the second recipe we tried.

~1 cup pureed persimmons
~1/2 cup butter at room temperature
~1 cup raisins
~1/2 tsp nutmeg
~1/2 tsp ground clove
~1/2 tsp cinnamon
~1 cup sugar
~1 egg
~1 tsp baking soda
~2 cups flour (we used whole wheat flour)
~1 cup chopped nuts (we used pecans)
Dissolve the baking soda in the persimmon. Mix together the butter, egg and sugar. Add spices, raisins and flour to the batter. Spoon onto cookie sheets and place in 350 degree oven for approx 12 mins or until done.

Note: Next time I would add more raisins if it were up to me. Oh and no nuts!!

There also was a frosting recipe, however, we didn't try it this time.
Frosting:
~1/2 cup butter
~1 cup brown sugar
~1/4 cup milk
~2 cups powered sugar

Melt butter and sugar, add milk and bring to boil. Add powered sugar.

Last but not least in anyway.......

Zucchini Relish:
The night before:
Shred 15 cups of zucchini (approx 6 lbs) place in a large bowl. On top of that place 5 cups of chopped onions and put 7 tbsp of salt and set in the fridge overnight.
The next day:
Rinse the zucchini mixture and ring dry, set aside.
Put all of the following in a large pot and bring to a boil.
3 large green bell peppers, chopped
4 large red bell peppers, chopped
3 cups apple cider vinegar
6 cups of sugar
1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp tumeric
1 1/2 tsp white pepper
1 tsp celery seed
1 tsp cornstarch
After the above mixture has come to a boil and drained zucchini mixture to pot and simmer for 15 mins and can. Today this made 9 jars.

Note: You can substitute any color bell peppers.

Split Pea Soup

Today we are making Split Pea Soup. Last night we soaked the split peas. This morning out comes the crock pot and off we go.
Ingredients we put in are:
1 pkg sausage
1 large yellow onion, chopped
3 carrots, peeled and sliced
3+ celery stalks and tops
1+ lb of dried split peas, soaked in water overnight
1 crushed clove of garlic
water to cover all the ingredients
salt and pepper

Now it is cooking for 4+ hours on high.
Check and puree when ready to serve.

Note: The soup was much better the next day!!!!

Mamma Sookie's Rhubard Cake

Hello again.....last night I made Mamma Sookie's Rhubarb Cake and wow is it wonderful!
Yesterday I picked approx 4 stalks of rhubarb from the backyard and started my cake. Since Kristi isn't the lemon fan like me I had to stir away from the recipe a bit and used a yellow cake instead of lemon. I can't wait to make a lemon version for Angela tomorrow so I can try that one too! Last night we took the Rhubarb cake over to the Dedini House for dessert and everyone loved it. Thank you Mamma Sookie!!

Good morning! Today we are heading up to Davis to take Archie to another Dr. appt for his eye, which is getting much better by the way. This morning I found this show on Current TV about people and their blogs. I keep thinking that I need to learn to blog on this daily and see what I can create. When I first started this blog I was just going to use it for my knitting projects, but that is what I have Ravelry for now!! Awesome by the way. And BOB rocks!! So here I go I am going to start to tell you about anything. Have you ever gone to the library to "rent a movie"? Now I can say I have. But the best part is during the summer I have less tv junkie shows to watch so now during the summer I am trying to catch up on some shows I have wanted to watch but never did. One being the Sopranos. So last night I got the first season!! Well time to start to get up and get dressed and ready to head up to Davis. Have a great day.

Crochet.....

Well now I can say that I crochet!! I made a sad blanket for Archie. He is kinda unhappy with his eye being hurt and all so I thought I would make him a blanket out of some yarn I have, wool no less so it will keep him nice and warm. The best part is all the quite time I get sitting on the couch with Archie on my lap just sleeping away. Where did my hyper bouncing Boston boy go?? Oh yeah it is the drugs...lol.

I am also half way thru my first crocheted blanket, which is just a plain single crocheted blanket. But wow do I have that stitch down now.

Marlyn asked me how to do a granny square and wow are there so many different versions out there you can do. I started searching YouTube for ideas and I found many. I actually think I get it now too! Wow what a little internet research you can find anything.

I have to admit I really like knitting, but I think that now my possibilities are endless as I can do both. However, crochet is really cool and now I want to try some more!!

Learned to Crochet

In May I went to the Maker Faire with my dad. There was a Lion Brand booth and that was it I learned just like that to Crochet. Since then I have made a blanket for Archie (he got attacked by a feral cat....and lost...so sad) since he is house and bed bound for a few weeks. I also am about 1/3 the way thru on making a afghan for Kristi and I. Just straight single crochet but wow have I got that stitch down now!! I just checked out an afghan book from the library and I am going to try and make one out of there as a christmas present. Look at me getting ready already in July!! And I started getting yarn to make some more afghan/blankets for folks for christmas!! Don't worry I am still knitting just on a crochet kick right now!

A week with the Nieces........

Well for the last week Kristi and I have had two of our nieces staying with us. Monday we went to the playground. And a nice walk with the dogs. Wednesday we went to the exploritorium in SF and that was fun. Yesterday we went to dinner with Ryan, Nana and Papa. Today we are going to get ready to drive up to Randy and Katie's for Jordyn's and Jaycee's birthday parties which are both tomorrow. Then back home.

Hey there all. It sure has been a LONG time since I wrote on here but I am so excited I am almost finished with the baby blanket for my niece. I seriously have about 5 rows to go and I will be done. I can't wait to finally say I have finished a project. I am such a switcher. Going from one project and not finishing and going onto the other. Wow my life is so much like that too!

I GOT A PUPPY!!!!!!

Oh my you won't believe what I got last night.... yep you guessed it a puppy. He is a 14 month old Boston Terrier which we have named "ARCHIE" He is as cute as can be and I am in total love over him. Beans (our other Boston) on the other hand doesn't want to share his toys but he is 9 years old and some young little whipper snapper just invaded his turf.

Good morning, what an eventful weekend we had...
Saturday morning it was up early and off to the farmer's market to get some fresh great vegi's.
Then down the coast to get some river rocks for our front yard. Then up 92 to get new foliage for our yard. And last but not least we had to stop and pick up a new orchid. (I will post pictures later).

We are still getting ready for our garage sale and keep going thru things to get rid of and we are finding lots which is great.

Rainbow Scarf

Well I finally finished my rainbow scarf and now I am working on getting my inventory up so I ca post some of my scarfs on etsy.com to see if I can sell them now. I also have other items I will be listing like some quilts that I have made. This weekend I am hoping to tackle my craft closet and see if I can sell the stuff that I have stashed in there and also go thru all the yarn I have been hording and not using so I can use it all up with tons to make..... and trying to get ready for Christmas.

Hello all and Happy Friday,
I can't let another day go by without making a post. I thought I would tell you a few projects I am currently working on.

1 - A knit scarf out of this really pretty rainbowish yarn which my mother bought me when I first learned how to knit but was to afraid to use it as the yarn cost a lot and what if I had messed up? The hank was something like $40 bucks. WOW!.

2 - Is a knitted blankie for my not so new niece, but I am hoping to get it done by 7/15/08 when she will be 6 months old. I am using recycled cotton and it is so nice. Might have to make one for me too.... ok let's get serious that would be a HUGE project. Maybe a nice tank top out of it would be good for me.

3 - Working on some basic scarves to see about selling as I have all this yarn and no idea why I bought it and thought that if I started now I would actually get them done and my other half could put them up on etsy for me and sell them. Since we use to sell our wares at a local rec and will not be doing that this year. So why not try!

Well those are the three things I am carrying around with me everywhere I go these days.

But we did get a needed few days off this week and went up north to check out the Indigo Girls and Brandi Carlile in concert in Yountville. Wow what a show probably one of the best times I have seen them and I have seen them a ton in the last 15 years. Needless to say it was a great week.

Sock Class....

(This is back from October 2007) Jeannette, Jean (Jeannette's friend) and I took a sock class at Noe Knits. Jean finished her socks, Jeannette finished one sock and almost done with the other.... and then there was me. I didn't even finish one sock. But I am going to keep socking along and see what happens. Kristi promises me she will wear them no matter what they look like - Today July 2008 I have still not finished my socks. But I did put them on double points now to see if that is easier for me... we will have to see.

Ok so since I am awful at finishing things I start. I thought making a list of what it is I am working on might help me..... so here goes (and remember this list will be changing all the time....)

1) malabrigo - kettle dyed pure merino wool - holly hock #148 - worsted, 216 yards, approx 3.5oz, 4-5 stitches per inch, needle size 7-9, hand wash dry flat.
Currently on my second skein working on a scarf for Kristi. Scarf is a knit2purl2 pattern.

2) Sensations Licorice - Navy Blue twisted with a multi blue to white - 100% wool Color #120. Along with Lopi 100% Icelandic Wool - Color#0118 Lot#3255, 100g = approx 110yds.
These two together are going to be a big square felted bag, which I am using no pattern for just trying it out. All knit stitches.

Hello all.... I have had a crazy couple of weeks. I am a new auntie.... as my new niece was born on 9/5/07 Jillian Carmel.... and oh so sweet looking! So while that was going on, Kristi and myself took care of Jillian's older sister Raychel all week. Wow what a handful! It is great to be an Aunt as the kids get to go back home, sooner or later.

Then I had another mishap on Sunday (what is it with Sunday??) I sprained my back, how they heck do you sprain a back.... well all I did was bend over wrong. Oh well... it isn't the first time and it will not be the last but this time I am going to take care of it.

Well... just wanted to fill you in on all of that......I am trying to put a list together of my knitting projects so I can put them on the web. Also, great news... I sold my first dishcloth!! Yeah!!! More is bound to be sold just you wait and see.

Ok lady.... here you go.

So I have been really busy lately, which is a great excuse for not blogging. HAHA!! Good news is I have a new niece on the way and she will be here really soon, I mean like a week or so and then even better news I will have another niece right after Christmas....that will be 5 nieces and 1 nephew... phew.
Other good news is we are almost finally finished with our book selling busy. I can't wait for it to be done with, hoping the last of the books are taken by the end of the week.

Over the last month since I last wrote these are a few things which happened.

Took my nieces and nephew to the SF Zoo - I think we had more fun then they did.

Also, had my niece Raychel for the weekend. That was great. Kristi and I had a great time watching her. Look at her go... you don't know how excited I was that she like playing with my Mr. Potato Head Collection!!! Go Auntie Tara! (dang for some reason I can't add pictures right now, will do later)

Another great thing was that Kristi's Best Friend came into town the first week of August for a week all the way from London (see you at the end of the year Katie & Bunny)

I am sure there is more just can't think of it right now.... oh but I have been knitting tons.... and think that I am finally ready to make a pair of socks. Get ready here I come....

Happy Monday everyone... just wanted to give an update on my hand/wrist burn. Here is a picture from Sunday (one week later) from the burn event.

Doesn't look as bad as it did with all the blisters but it really red and still very raw.

The weekend... Kristi and worked around the house but the coolest thing we did was pick all the apricots off of our tree (mainly picked them up off the ground). Kristi cleaned them up and we made two batches of apricot jam... and damn is it good!! Thanks Juice!!!!!

So I also wanted to post some of our orchids as well.... this way we can look back at them and see how much progress we have had. Here is a picture of the following: meyer lemon, our big rack of orchids, our misc table of orchids, our avocado trees, a couple of house plants, and two baby lime trees.......

What a crazy couple of days.....

Well I have had a crazy couple of days. Wednesday was 4th of July, which is Kristi's favorite holiday so we bought lots of fireworks and set them off in front our house. That was a blast!! My niece who is only 13 months old was there and she wasn't sure what to think of them but she didn't seem to get scared.

Then I had a couple of days off of work did some stuff around the house and helped Krisit's brother move some more furniture to their new place.

Oh and then there was today. Got up Kristi made me breakfast and I just had to have some honey on my biscuit. Yeah what was I thinking.... we had a little honey which had turned to sugar... so why not just put it in the microwave... well I put it in for way to long. It was boiling and well I thought I would wait a bit for it to harden up and stupidly kept it in my hand and a couple of minutes later I drop it somehow and all over me... well and here is the result of that .....
not so good huh?? And damn does it hurt!!! Well isn't that typical me ..... can I ever do anything and not get hurt? Well off to let me hand rest because I can't stop the throbbing pain!!! That one will leave a scar for sure.... maybe I was trying to relive my childhood.....

1st Knitting Group Experience

Tonight I went to my first knitting group. Wow was it fun. I did learn that I shouldn't be knitting the scarf I wanted to try the Faggot Stitch with Lion's Suede as it is not giving at all. So I stopped working on that and started knitting my first dishcloth, which had a purl stitch in it that I have never done before woo hoo!! Wow it is easy, and now I have learned how to purl. YEAH! I am getting it and falling in love with knitting. I can't wait to get back to it. Very very glad I went last night I really liked everyone in the knitting group because they were more than helpful. Thanks again and see you next Tuesday! Oh yes and THANK YOU JEANETTE for the wonderful bracelet and so excited to see that it came from someone who uses etsy.com!!

Well I was having a really hard time working today so I did a little Internet surfing for knitting stuff. Wow there is so much out there I can't believe it. I have decided that I would like to try and make some dish towels, well found tons of free patterns, which is so wonderful.

Kristi (my girlfriend, that's her to the left) she took a lot of pictures of our newly done backyard tonight. We have all sorts of goodies growing. Tomatoes, turnips, rhubarb, crooked neck squash, oregano, several types of basil, sunflowers, celery, dill, mint, peppers, brussell sprouts, cucumbers, apricots, bean poll, lavender, hostas, blue grass, angels trumpet, apples, cherries, japanese maples, columbines fuchsia, calla lilies, pom pom grass, daffodils, baby redwood trees, orchids, grape, carnivorous, ginkgo tree, banana tree, ginger, hydrangea, and some random flowers.

That is our garden as it looks today!!! Yeah it is starting to grow.

Well off to start a new scarf with a design I haven't done before.

Oh yeah and that is me with our dog Beans. That's Boston Baked Beans XVII to you!! Woof woof.
